About Veysel Dzhesur
Multi-percussionist
Veysel was born in Izmir, Turkey, where he also began his musical career. After joining the Young Talent Program at the Conservatory of Izmir, he went on to study his Bachelor and meanwhile performed frequently with major orchestras all over Western Turkey. Aiming to continue his journey as an orchestral percussion player he emigrated to the Netherlands, where he studied at the Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam. It is there, where his love for chamber music emerged. Apart from his training and practice as a classical percussionist, during his studies he did a practical and theoretical research on the percussion instruments of the Middle East, specializing on the darbuka. He thereby evolved into a musician whose artistic profile uniquely connects the traditions and styles of both Turkish/Middle Eastern and Western classical music. As of 2021, Veysel is also a member of the four-person Oorkaan ensemble established by the award-winning Stichting Oorkaan based in Amsterdam. Performing staged concerts for young audiences, Veysel is active on both key instruments (marimba, vibraphone) and hand percussions alongside the showcase of theatrical performance.
